Chinchilla Returns With Raw New Single ‘Avoidance’

Today, London rising artist CHINCHILLA has shared long-awaited stunning new single ‘Avoidance’ - listen here. The ballad opens on a moment in CHINCHILLA’s life where she felt paralysed by anxiety; overwhelmed by relentless industry noise, she juggled the demands of the world whilst navigating a turbulent heartbreak. After she received a triggering text whilst headed to a writing session, within 45 minutes, ‘Avoidance’ was born. When creating the stunning visuals and lyric video for ‘Avoidance’, CHINCHILLA worked alongside Frances O’Sullivan (Beautyspock) - watch the lyric video here. Today’s release is the first from a trilogy of songs to be shared by CHINCHILLA this summer.

Speaking about ‘Avoidance’, CHINCHILLA says “I wrote this when I was in a period of a lot of stress/burn out - I released ‘Little Girl Gone’ and it was viral and changing my life and I was running the project completely alone, no time to eat/sleep etc… I was also going through this break up and on my way to a writing session I received a message that sent me into an anxiety attack. I kept thinking ‘noooo I can’t feel like this right now’ which I guess made it worse.

I felt like I could handle everything music wise however big or small - but I couldn’t handle facing the pain my heart was feeling behind those distractions, it was really excruciating to be honest. I guess at that time I felt frozen and couldn't respond at all - all I wanted to do was avoid it all and put my head under the duvet until it went away. I didn’t know how to cope with the anxiety of it all. I arrived at my writing session and although we were meant to work on another song, the feeling was overbearing and all I could do in that moment was write about this. We wrote and recorded it in 45 minutes and I've always been really attached to the song capturing a really raw moment. No lyric was rewritten, it was just a real bleed of emotions. When finishing the song we tried everything to build up the production but nothing felt like it had the magic of the original version - so the final song is mainly just that.”

The new single arrives ahead of a run of sold out headline shows later this month which will see CHINCHILLA perform in Manchester, London, and Brighton. From tomorrow, CHINCHILLA will be opening for popstar Justin Timberlake for three stadium shows in Europe. More information on live dates can be found at https://www.chinchilla-official.com/

Following the astounding success of her last EP ‘Flytrap’, London artist CHINCHILLA is rebuilding herself from the inside. The bold, unapologetic persona behind the songwriter and producer’s breakout hits ‘Little Girl Gone’ and ‘Cut You Off’ makes way now for a rawer, more confessional side to CHINCHILLA as a person and artist. On her forthcoming musical trilogy of singles, she shows her strength through vulnerability.

Navigating a painful period of heartbreak over this three-song arc, CHINCHILLA writes through it all. The mind-bending early days of a relationship’s end and a massive inflection in her career, everything falling apart and her picking up the broken pieces and eventually reaching healing and self-compassion. As she so often does, she worked out of the safe space of a furry walled shed-studio, processing her minefield of feelings and breaking through to emotional release through her art.

Well known for her electrifying anthems against naysayers and the challenges she’s faced in the music industry, CHINCHILLA takes a beautiful turn inward with this project. Here, sensitivity is her superpower. Even in the quiet moments, the strength of her voice is undeniable. Abundantly creative, fiercely independent and always honest, this project shows someone who is unafraid to face herself.
