Eden J Howells releases new single, ‘living lonely’
London-based alternative folk rock rising star Eden J Howells announces the release of upcoming single, “living lonely”, out everywhere.
The fourth single from the artist’s highly anticipated sophomore EP, “living lonely” marks a raw and compelling turn in their sonic journey. The track is the heaviest and most sensationally charged release from the London-based artist to date — a gritty folk-rock anthem carved from isolation, anger, and a deep search for meaning.
Written in November 2022 in a Sainsbury’s car park in Burpham, near where Eden grew up, “living lonely” captures a moment of deep depression, alienation, and quiet resilience. With its heavier guitar tones and distorted, fuller production, the track signals a bold new direction in Eden’s sound — one that mirrors the intensity of the feelings it’s born from.
“I felt so much anger around my situation,” Eden shares. “I was stuck back in my hometown, and I didn’t know anyone. It felt like no one knew I was there, like I’d become invisible. I was living in this crappy little van that kept breaking down. I couldn’t afford rent (hence the van). I felt completely lost, like I was floating through space and I couldn’t get back, no matter how hard I tried.”
As a late-diagnosed autistic person, Eden’s songwriting often explores the complexities of identity, neurodivergence and navigating the world in a way that doesn’t always make space for difference. “living lonely” is a cathartic reflection on that disconnection — from self, from society, from stability — and the rage and grief that can come with it. Still, at its core is a flicker of hope: a moment of catharsis and a reach towards healing.
To celebrate the release — and Eden’s birthday the day before — they’ll be hosting a headline show at The Libra in London on June 10th. The night promises an intimate and electrifying performance, complete with exclusive “living lonely” merch and surprise goodie bags for every attendee, packed with handwritten lyrics, personal letters, and a few extra treats.
The track follows on from previous singles “everything you touch”, “I am whatever you want me to be” and “aphrodite”— the latter of which was recently added to Spotify’s Fresh Folk Finds editorial playlist, marking a major milestone for the rising artist. All three singles have paved the way for Eden’s second EP, supported by Youth Music’s NextGen Fund and due for release this September.
Outside of their musical work, Eden continues to cultivate Queer Creatives London — a collective they founded in April 2024 that has become a cornerstone of their practice as a queer artist. The platform creates space for collaboration, community and celebration of queer voices in the arts.
With their fearless honesty, DIY ethos and deeply resonant songwriting, Eden J Howells is cementing their place as one of the most compelling voices in the UK’s new music scene.
