Iranian-American singer, songwriter & visual artist Dornika shares new single ‘Baggy Jeans’

Prepare to become obsessed with your new favourite queer pop icon! Championed for her revolutionary anthems such as ‘Bush’, ‘Miniskirt’ and ‘Nobody’, Dornika is back with her equally defiant new single ‘Baggy Jeans’, out everywhere on.

Known for her music, performance art, and activism, Dornika empowers listeners to break free from societal norms surrounding gender, race, sex, and beauty. Her style ranges from experimental and dark electronic, to hyper pop and booty bass influenced bangers bringing the spirit of punk to the club dance floor. She fearlessly pushes boundaries across multiple mediums as a singer-songwriter, rapper, producer, fashion designer, model, and award winning director.

‘Baggy Jeans’ was written during Dornika’s first US Tour last year based on the positive reactions she received about her personal style - a unique fusion of Berlin and New York street style. Once again breaking down societal norms about how AFAB people should present, Dornika wanted to shine a light on the women and queer people who are dominating streetwear right now - a subculture that has been mainly focused on cis men for a long time.

Speaking of the track, Dornika says, “I feel now is the moment for everyone to embrace their authenticity! I wrote this track inspired by reactions of people to my outfits while walking the streets of New York. After playing my show in LA after NY, I made this track with fresh inspiration with producer Ari Carpenter in his home studio, and Angel Cintron joined in for the angelic backing vocals.

Since I was young, I was obsessed with baggy boy clothes. I wanted to wear big T-shirts and big pants, though it was looked down on by my culture and surroundings. I was always pushed as a girl to wear clothing that made me look thinner and more feminine.

In the last few years, I’ve embraced my authentic style more and more and feel like not only am I living my childhood boy-inspired fantasy, but dressing often better that a lot of guys I see. In fact, they often say how much they want to dress like me, and complement my fits regularly. I also wanted to create a track people can feel empowered and sexy to dance to!”

Since her triumphant debut mid pandemic, she has played over 100 shows across Europe including headlining for Pride in Berlin, Munich, Copenhagen, Prague and Rotterdam. Dornika has collaborated with major brands such as Spotify and Netflix, and played top festivals such as Lollapalooza, Fusion, and Whole Festival.
