Vision to Reality: Maya Wasserman debuts with 'PARASITE'

Maya Wasserman is a 20 year old artist based in London, UK who aims to immerse her listeners into the world of her music. The concept for her songs are not only auditory, but multisensory. This is particularly apparent in her debut single ‘Parasite’. She has used a cockroach poster backgrounded by a bold red colour, as the main form of advertisement. Maya’s vision of the roach has become a synonymous symbol to her single where she sings about a lurking ex that replicates the feeling of formication. ‘I don’t want a parasite on my back, human decency is what you lack’ is a lyric made to scream about your leach-like ex that keeps returning, no matter how hard you tell them it’s over.

Maya is breaking into the industry with unapologetic choices that match the song’s blunt and self-assured lyrics. This is further seen in the music video where Maya is running around the city, putting up the critter poster as a warning sign. This mysterious promotion symbol intrigues the public eye, whilst simultaneously merging the bold visual to the distinctive audio.

Maya is not just an artist, but a creative visionary who is able to translate her concepts into eye-catching and memorable visuals, such as a cockroach that shares similar features as her ex, your ex and even my ex.

Brought up in Poland, Maya started her musical journey studying classical music with violin as her main instrument. She writes and produces her own music, as well as pairs up with other artists to help them execute their own ideas, with her personal mark on them. While Maya has a team of young creatives working with her, she conceptualizes much of her own visuals and is heavily involved in the creative process. From making props at home and editing pictures to travelling to acquire necessary shoot materials, she knows what she wants to execute, and does so without doubt.
